Sunday night I got to see The Decemberists live in concert, at the McMenimam's Edgefield in Troutdale, OR. Whew! It was a fantastic concert! It was especially fun because they are a hometown band, and having them play back in Portland makes the audience feel special, like being part of some kind of inside joke. Edgefield has concerts on the lawn all summer, and you just spread out a blanket or some chairs and enjoy the music. Best of all? Their concerts are all ages, so J and I just packed Mallory along for the ride - her first rock concert! :) Of course, I got a little knitting in. What, you say? She still knits? I know, I know - it's been WAAYY TOOO long since I've posted. But here's some proof for you:
Sockapalooza sock #1
My pal mentioned that she really has had her eye on the Boyfriend Socks by Slipped Stitch. The yarn is Lorna's Shepard Sock in Ice House - a great blue green mix in the skein, but not so great in this particular pattern.
The pattern was written for Lorna's, but looks much better in Slipped Stitch's subtle slate colorway, rather than this variegated blue/green that ends up looking a bit busy for all the great cables. Oh well - what're you gonna do? I'm certainly not starting over! The deadline is looming (Aug 17, I think). Plus, the needles - so tiny! The pattern calls for 0s, and I've never done socks on 0s before. But - my pal has small feet, and I didn't want to take any risk of the socks coming out too big, so I stuck with the 0s. So far, good decisions. They are just a bit tight for me to put on, which should be perfect for my pal.
A bit of baby news? Boy they grow fast. Everyone says it, but when I look at pictures I can see just how true it is. For example, below is an image of Campbell and Mallory side by side in Campbell's bed, and Mallory looks like a doll she's so small (her binky is as big as her face!). This picture was taken at 4 weeks.....
Now compare to a picture from last night (7 weeks), Mallory's first night on her back in the bassinet by our bed. (Long story - she has reflux and so far the only thing we've got her to sleep in restfully is her carseat. We were hoping she was ready to lay on a flat surface....Let's just say last night was a VERY L.O.N.G. night.) She looks huge! The nice thing is that her 0-3 month clothes finally fit, making it a little more interesting to dress her (especially since we have to change clothes - all of us - several times a day thanks to the reflux). :)
Back to knitting: I am plugging away at the teddy bear sweater, though it is on hold while I finish the Sockapalooza socks. I have the back and 2 sleeves done, and am a few rows from finishing the left front. All that will be left after that is the right front and the collar...cross your fingers I don't burn out before it's all done. I HATE this pattern, by the way, but I will expand on that when I have a FO post.
Last, I'll leave you with a nice picture of baby booty:
Stay tuned for pictures of Ms M in some of the lovely handknits she received!
