So here it is, the 14th of December, and I'm pre-posting my FO post of my mother's sweater. :) I had to wait til it was safe, of course!
- Allegra Pullover, from Handknit Style II
- size 9 needles
- 10 skeins Berroco Ultra Silk in pesto
- begun August 07 and finished Dec 07
Overall this was a breeze to knit. It's nice to knit on size 9 needles - things just seem to fly! This sweater features a "big stitch" design element that runs down the center of the two sleeves, down each shoulder into the side seams, and down the center.
The "big stitch" was a lot of fun - it involves unraveling 3 stitches during the bindoff, then grabbing them at the bottom with a crochet hook and picking them back up 4 rows at a time. Very cool!
I had just one beef with an errata in the pattern: there is a garter stitch element for 2 rows one inch in from the bottom of the sleeves and the body. HOWEVER, the sleeves are missing this instruction. And, being that I started with the sleeves, I didn't realize there was a mistake until I got to the body. The picture in the book clearly shows the garter rows on the sleeves as well. I was really bummed that my mom's wouldn't have that little feature, but I wasn't about to re-do the sleeves just to add it.
One other little note: on the front it has you knit across one shoulder, place the center neck sts on hold, then finish the left shoulder. Then, all you do when you grab those neck sts back on the needle is bind them off! This was really annoying to me, b/c they easily could have been bound off instead of put on hold, and that would have reduced the little ends to sew in right along the neckline by 4. Small detail, but would have made the whole thing smoother.
Now - being that this is the 14th and not really the 26th, I don't know if it fits yet! I measured one of her sweaters in her closet, so cross your fingers!
