Check out the smiles on these new knitters (and crocheters!) faces!!Today Vonnie and I dropped off the second huge pile of yarn from all of you generous donors, and boy were they happy to see us. We were so excited to be amongst such unbridled enthusiasm for knitting - it was amazing. These kids are so happy to be knitting and crocheting, and they are overflowing with the drive to make projects for themselves, their families, and for charity. After the initial yarn frenzy they were all chatting away about what they would make with their new claims. :)
Another spinning update: The brown in my hand is a 2 ply alpaca/blue faced leicester that I picked up on sale at OFFF from Great Balls of Fiber. It was so, so soft, and she put it on sale because it ended up being a too dark shade of brown for her to dye. It was perfectly lovely to spin, and made 2 nice skeins (6 oz. total) that will become a hat for Jason. Then, on the bobbin is some superwash by Dicentra that I am trying to spin into SOCK YARN. I know, awfully ambitious for a newbie (2 weeks - yay!), but I think it's looking like I can atleast achieve DK, don't you?
I'll have knitting to show soon, I promise. I am about and inch away from starting the toe on my 2-at-once socks, so I should be able to make the Saturday deadline for SAM2 (knock on some quality wood, would you please?). And I have a lovely little store model scarf I'm knitting up in Rowan's new yarn, Tapestry, and I will give you a progress shot of that tomorrow.
great job on the spinning! i love my lendrum. very addictive. and i'm so excited! i see (what was) my yarn! it's great that the kids are so enthusiastic about knitting and crocheting! i'm hoping they'll be lifers :) and one day, perhaps we'll see them and their FO's on the web...? future knit bloggers! woot! next thing you know, they'll be asking for spindle, fiber, and wheel donations...hehe.
