Widdershinin', Family Style

First up: an announcement. I have dabbled a tiny bit in making some KAH swag, now available in the Knot Another Hat Swag Cafepress Shop. Go check it out.  Many of you might recognize that slogan from a popular bumper sticker, but I can't find a source for that sticker, so I made some gear up of my own.

Next: the Brachs Socks are done. Didn't quite get knee-highs out of the one ball, but I got good long socks, and that's swell. I Love Them.

So in keeping with my toe-up-gusset-heel-flap sock love (a la Widdershins), I have socks going for the whole family now (all family that is not still in the womb, that is). First, I did up one STR Medium Weight sock in color County Clare on size 2 (or 3) needles. (I say "or 3" because I don't exactly know, and will have to start the 2nd sock and compare my gauge to find out. I thought I had two sets of 3s with me at the time I started, and after starting Jason's sock [see below], I realized that in fact I had one set of 2s and one set of 3s.) I was able to get quite a long sock leg out of half of my skein, which was pleasing. Underneath my sock in the picture below is the math I went through to try to figure out a universal formula for adapting the Widdershins to different stitch counts. I found a other similar endeavors on other blogs, but most of them required using multiple stitch markers, which I didn't want to do. But Mel had the most generic (read: it makes sense) version, which I used, except to re-write it all out for 2 circs instead of 4 dpns. When I get my 2 circs version all prettied up I'll post it up here for anyone who's interested.

After the County Clare sock was done, I started a pair for Jason out of some Koigu I picked up last summer. 'Bout time.

And then Campbell joined in on the fun and wanted a pair for herself, and she picked out some 4-ply superwash that I dyed last summer at our first dye workshop. I was going to describe these in the sidebar as toddler socks, but after knitting the foot and turning the heel, I realized that is no longer accurate. They are full-on kids' socks. Boy that girl is getting big!

i am not sure what it says about my style maturity level that i really love the colorway campbell's socks are knit in! i will also be stealing those cupcake stitch markers while you are not looking! :)

I love the neopolitan socks! I need to try toe-up. I looked on a knitting help site to learn the magic loop, it looks very interesting. I will have to look into the method you used.
