Will I ever learn?
Fact. Chunky yarn knits up into a chunky sweater. Fact. Chunky sweaters on my chunky body make me chunkier. Fact. I know all of this, yet somehow still took 10 skeins of Cascade Venezia (regular, not the worsted) home for sweater usage. Result? Ugh.
Of course, I must qualify that "Ugh": the sweater itself is beautiful, and it looks really great on, well, people with less winter coat than I (i.e. Nichole). The yarn? Delicious. It's just that on me, the whole thing looks like this:
Sorry - no live action photos of this one. Nope - the only one modeling this sweater for the photo shoot is my Shop Lady. She wore the sweater out on the balcony while enjoying the lovely view of the Columbia River on our lovely sunny day.
- Pattern: Wavy, from the Rowan Cotton Tape Collection by Kim Hargreaves
- Yarn: 8 sk Cascade Venezia in Olive
- Needles: US 10 3/4 (7,0mm) from my addi Click set
- Size and Mods: Started out knitting a L for hips (38") then switched at waist shaping to a M (36") for remainder, including sleeves. Oh - also modified to knit in the round and do all raglan shaping in the round. Why sew???
The knitting went very quickly, as you can imagine on 7,0mm needles. My Click set came along at just the right time, because I swatched on a 6,5mm and an 8,0mm and neither got me gauge. I got a wild hair to start this thing on a Friday and had it nearly finished in the weekend. Here's a little stitch detail:
So - let this be a lesson learned for me. For now, at least.
Coming up? Part II, When Chunky Works.
What a shame you don't like it on - but if you don't like it you don't like it ifykwim. It is a gorgeous sweater though!
